this morning,
while bodies moved collectively
I felt ushered out of myself,
buoyed by inhales and exhales,
across the acacia floorboards
past looming palm trees
and fallen fronds
to meet the sea
and rest for a moment,
allowing supple waves
to surge between my toes
and rush up my legs
fingertips treading the surface
gently tumbling and retreating
an endless exchange
of salt and sand
wading farther out
beyond the white-capped spume
into the deep turquoise
and then sinking into the cold blue
a breathless entry,
hair undulating like tentacles
a warm current gliding by,
becoming your breath on my skin
as you whisper into the crevice
between my bare shoulders
my love, my lover
you are the ocean
you say over and over, entering
the space between us
while we slowly rock
gently tumbling and retreating
yielding as supple waves
surge between our toes
rushing up my legs
into my heart
where salt and sky meet
where you’ll stay until the sun comes up
this morning
and again tomorrow.
